Travelling by public minibus in Thailand is a very easy and cost-effective way of getting around. There are minibus routes to almost anywhere you can think of and they are used equally by tourists and locals as a convenient and cheap way to get around.
Public minibuses in Thailand are typically air-conditioned and seat 10-15 people. There is some room for luggage inside the minibus, but it is not unusual for luggage to be stacked on the roof rack. Please be aware that sudden downpours of tropical rain are not uncommon in southern Thailand and it’s a good idea to carry electrical items with you inside the minibus and to take steps to waterproof your luggage.
Travelling in a public minibus in Thailand is often fairly noisy, with loud music blaring from the minibus stereo and lots of chatting and laughing amongst the passengers. You can expect most minibus journeys to be fully booked and fairly crowded. Minibus drivers often work long hours and may stop off to eat or drink along the way, this can be a welcome restroom stop or a chance to stretch your legs.
